After a trio of extraterrestrials accidentally crash
land their spaceship in a California swimming pool, their leader finds unexpected romance
with the pool's Valley Girl owner. This bright, colorful comedy plays the meeting of human
and alien strictly for laughs, using its fish-out-of-water scenario to gently spoof the
shallowness of the West Coast lifestyle: the biggest challenge the aliens face in fitting
in amongst the surfer dude and beach blondes is getting the right haircut. The love story,
which charts the growing attraction between the alien's leader, Mac (Jeff Goldblum), and
their human companion Valerie (Geena Davis), is more often than not merely an excuse for
broad but often effective gags. Amongst the film's highlights are several musical numbers
written and performed by parody songstress and co-screenwriter Julie Brown, including
