"We never gave ourselves giant expectations," says Daryl
Hall of his partnership with John Oates. "We didn't get together with the idea that
we would seIl a million a records - we were just happy to do our music and get it out
there. I don't think that's really changed through all the stuff that's happened over the
years."
Such an attitude
served Daryl Hall & John Oates well during their early days as a duo. These hit makers
- to - be needed a nurturing period to develop their own unique mix of R&B, rock, and
other elements. The rewards of their creative trial - and - error would eventually be
reaped, from the mid- '70s into the early '80s and beyond. But before they could
successfully seale the Top 40 charts, Hall & Oates had to find their feet as a
creative team.
